Global climate, energy policies, and economic development

This is aimed at identifying the connections between the climate and the global economy. Climate change is especially dependent on energy policy, economic growth and the development of the emerging countries, via emissions of greenhouse gases and changes in land use. In return, economic systems are dependent on climate change, due on the one hand to the damage caused by extreme events and its consequences and, on the other, to the perception of climate change, to diminishing uncertainty about its magnitude and to forecasting.

It is essential to improve our understanding of the way in which climate and economic scenarios are interconnected if we are to better optimize policies aimed at reducing emissions. This question will require close coordination between economists and climatologists.
