CARBOSOIL : International Workshop "Sharing and Integrative Analysis of Soil Incubation Data"

Workshop sur invitation organisé dans le cadre du projet Carbosoil
Paris - 5 juillet 2011

Data and information sharing has become increasingly important in earth system research in the past years. The fast accumulation of data has resulted in growing databases of ecosystem measurements, increasingly open to the scientific community and used for model development and validation. In soil research, such advances are common for field and ecosystem studies but fewer efforts have been made to share and create databases of laboratory results. However, the integrative analysis of data from studies made under controlled conditions has the potential to contribute significantly to the understanding of soil processes and the development of soil models.

With this in mind, and following the creation of a first database of soil incubation data in 2010, the workshop to be held in Paris the 5th of July 2011, for sharing and integrative analysis of soil incubation data, aims at bringing together data providers, experts in laboratory measurements and modelers for the exchange of research ideas and planning of analysis, as well as to agree on the management and use of shared data. The expected outcomes include, first, the coordination of a number of studies based on the available data, focusing on the relations between soil CO2 production and carbon quality, soil properties and driving environmental variables, and second, a dynamic database of laboratory soil data, eventually open to the community.
